Basically I didnt really know what to expect from the 15th Malaysian Law Conference. I just knew i wanted to try everything and expose myself to as many activities as possible.
It was very kind of Shan Ping, one of my law seniors, to accompany us to take the LRT to KLCC as it was our first time. MLC started in a really formal way with speeches from Mr. Lim Chee Wee, chairperson of OC, Mr. Ragunath, president of Bar Council, and Mr. Michael Kirby, former Chief Justice of Australia's High Court. I was particularly impressed by Mr. Kirby as he seemed to exude quite a charismatic personality. He is supposed to be 70+ but he looks nowhere that age!
We had many delicious treats throughout the day. For morning break, we had mini paus and almond croissants. As for the afternoon, if i am not mistaken, we had erm... something nice? Urgh. My memory is failing me.
I really enjoyed the afternoon session.. "Hard Talk on Human Rights". MLC invited people like Dato' Seri Ong Tee Keat, Dato' Zaid Ibrahim, Zainah Anwar, Mr. Nadeswaran, the Honourable Michael Kirby and Mr. James Nayagam. Not to forget, we had a very daring and sharp moderator in the name of Dato' Ambiga. I really love the questions posed by Dato' Ambiga and i admire her wit and guts in asking those questions to the speakers.
Day 2
Today was better than yesterday because of the night event..
The speeches throughout the day were so-so. The bunch of us went to watch a movie during our lunch break - "The Sorceror's Apprentice" under the insistence of Foo. The movie turned out to be pretty nice.. at least better than Twilight:Eclipse.
I dozed off during the afternoon session talk. *so embarassing*
I had the opportunity to see YAA Dato Seri Tun Zaki Tun Azmi (did i get the name right?), Dato Seri' Nazir Razak and Dato Seri' Abd Khalid Ibrahim today. (really hope i got it right) =)
And when we thought that the evening had ended, it had just started. On our way to catch the LRT, Miss Bhuvanes, from SmokeBall asked us to join them at Santinni to mingle with the other delegates from MLC!!! It was a really great opportunity and eye-opener for us and we really appreciate Miss Bhuvanes kind effort.. Met loads of people and got to savour many delicious food like the delectable fruit tart!!! haha.. Today really makes me look forward to tomorrow.
Tommorow, Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim is coming in the evening. And after that session, Chiao Ying, Jo Rene and i are heading to the cinemas again to watch Salt!
