PART 1: WUZHEN (ZHEJIANG)
Immediately departed from the airport to Wuzhen upon arrival. Wuzhen consists of two parts, east (Dongzha) and west (Xizha). Xizha is usually for tourist accomodation and has an incredible night view. We stayed at Wisteria Youth Hostel in Xizha, a place that is pretty worth it for student backpackers. It costs RMB60-100 per person depending on how many people you are sharing the room with.
The post office is definitely a place to stop by. It is one of the most ancient post offices around in China and they still do postal service from here!
Love the wooden design of the houses along the alleys.
Walking around trying local delicacies..
another place to visit in Wuzhen is the indigo fabric workshop.
And the sister-in-law cakes are definitely worth a try! Melt-in-the-mouth!
Crossing the wooden bridge while leaving Wuzhen Water town. Goodbye!
Wuzhen is quite the peaceful village and Xizha is worth a visit at night. However, if you come in winter, do prepare for some chilly weather. A one day stay in Wuzhen is sufficient but if you intend on visiting both the east and west parts, a two or three day stay would not be too long. Some places of interest at Xizha would be the Indigo fabric workshop, yida silk market, bridge in the bridge, water market, and the old post office. There are also boat rides to take you around the water town. Many local residents still stay at this water town despite it becoming an increasingly popular tourist attraction. Over the past 1000 years, Wuzhen has never changed its name, address, water system nor its lifestyle. It is also often known for its former residence of Chinese literary Mao Dun. Wuzhen is also popular for their steamed pork slices with glutinous rice flour wrapped in lotus, braised lamb in soy sauce, and sister-in-law cakes, but i only had the opportunity to come across the sister-in-law cakes. They may come in several flavours but all are powdery-like cookies.

To enter the water town, boats like the above are provided to transport us across the river. An alternative would be to take the wooden bridge (you can see in the upper right corner of the picture).
Wuzhen's night view did not fail to disappoint. Despite the extremely chilly weather, the walk around the water town at night was such a delight with the night lights shining on the water town's architectural features.
